This is the ORIGINAL ANTIQUE "TEDDY AND THE BEAR" Mechanical Bank circa 1907 made by the J.& E. Stevens Co. of Cromwell CT. This was designed by Charles Bailey, one of the foremost of mechanical bank designers. The bank has its original paint and there are no breaks, cracks or other damage to the cast iron. The bank's sides are securely fastened and the mechanics of the bank including the bear work properly. The all important marking of "patdapldfor" is stamped on the underside of the bank and the coin plug is marked patd feb 2 1875. To operate, cock Teddy's gun by pulling the sliding piece on the rifle back into position. Push the bear down into the tree. Place a coin in front of the sliding piece and press the lever behind Teddy's foot. Teddy then lowers his head, taking aim and shoots the coin into the tree stump. At the same time the bear pops out quite surprised. Thank you for looking and don't hesitate to ask questions.
